About this time last year, I did a blog post about two of The Body Shop’s Festive Scents and here we are again with this year’s new favourite; Juicy Pear!
I picked up this adorable Juicy Pear Delights gift set for €10 in our Brussels store back in November…before ultimately stocking up on a few of the full size products during our yearly shopping trip to Bluewater later that month (for 30% off at the Ashford Designer Outlet in Kent).
This scent is very fresh but not in a sharp citrusy way but rather in a freshly cut fruity pear way (trust me there is a difference). You’d be forgiven for associating the idea of a pear aroma (especially during Christmastime) with that of the poached pear in wine dessert (which side note…yum!). But although it does have a slight sweet edge to it, it’s not at all in the cinnamon-y spicy kind of way. It’s a very hard scent to describe so go sniff it out for yourselves, it’s divine!
The Body Shop Juicy Pear: Body Butter
It’s no secret that the body butters are my favourite products from The Body Shop, and I use them religiously on my legs after shaving and as a general hand moisturiser before bed (I find that the body butters keep my hands moisturised for longer during the following day than their hand creams). I’ve also noticed, over the years, that there seems to be two different consistencies regarding their body butters, depending on the scent.
One is harder and thicker to get out of the tub like this juicy pear one, the banana or strawberry one and the other is much softer and creamier/spreadable like the mango or the almond milk & honey one. Both have their separate benefits; the heavier one is richer and more moisturising for the skin whereas the spreadable creamier one is faster absorbing. I have nothing against either, although I do tend to like the heavier ones in the winter and the lighter ones in the summer (for an even lighter moisturiser I would highly recommend their body sorbets especially if you live in a hotter climate).
As the juicy pear one is of the heavier/richer variety it takes a bit of time to get fully absorbed (so don’t be surprised if a few white streaks are left over immediately after application). I wouldn’t recommend applying this one right before you intend on putting on your daytime clothes though (the skinny jeans struggle will be real!), but rather before bed with pyjamas that are of a much looser fit.
The Body Shop Juicy Pear: Shower Gel
Like the body butters, the shower gels come too in two consistencies; the heavier opaque ones or the see-through gel ones. Again, this time of year I do tend to prefer the creamier opaque ones as I find them more moisturising on the skin than the gel ones. But I love this scent enough to make the exception. After towelling myself dry this scent lingered on my skin for at least 4 hours (I tested this out of course where I hadn’t already applied body butter for further fruity emphasis).
The Body Shop Juicy Pear: Bath/Shower Lily In Cream
If you read last year’s post then you’ll know I don’t use shower lilies (never liked them), so this addition is always a bit of a dud for me when it comes to the gift sets, but my brother likes them so they never go to waste. Plus, after reading the product description more thoroughly this time around, I realised they are also made from recycled materials. I honestly would recommend The Body Shop on their ethics alone, but you get the added benefit of outstanding products too.
There you have it, one awesome gift set that you could treat either yourself with or offer someone else (hello secret Santa budgets under a tenner).
Now I know what you’re thinking, if you’ve ever read any of my perfume/scent related blog posts…“Did you not pick up the Warm Vanilla Delights set?” No, but I did pick up a couple of the full-sized body butters, but I must admit this year the juicy pear scent had the vanilla one beat (I know…gasp!).
Have you tried any of The Body Shop’s three festive scents this year? Which one out of the juicy pear, rich plum and warm vanilla was your favourite?
What has been the best secret Santa gift you’ve ever received or given? I helped my brother choose a couple of adorable Christmas mugs for his one this year (the Santa and snowman were well received).
